Comdata Launches Merchant Bank Card Processing Capability with Acquisition of Tranvia

    Business Editors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 2005--Comdata Corporation, a leading provider of electronic payment transactions, announces its capability to provide full-service payment processing for merchants with the closing of its acquisition of Tranvia, Inc., a merchant processor for credit, debit, pre-paid and e-commerce activities. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Tranvia will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Comdata.
Tranvia currently serves a range of merchants nationally and is also a direct provider of processing services to financial institutions, independent sales organizations, and providers of stored value payment products for educational institutions. With Tranvia, merchants can better manage their payment acceptance needs--with easy-to-use online reporting, value-added merchant services, and superior customer support. The comprehensive platform also offers broadband processing capabilities for high-speed transactions.
"This is a logical adjacent product to our gift card, fuel card and other card offerings in our retail and transportation markets. This acquisition will allow Comdata to offer the enhanced services that our merchants have been asking us to provide," Gary Krow, Comdata president, said. "But equally important, this is a natural progression in our company's development as we open new markets and stage growth from our core strengths: transaction depth, system stability and redundancy, strong customer service performance."
"Tranvia has invested in the development of an outstanding processing platform," Andrew Park, Comdata senior vice president, Product and Strategy, said. "This acquisition gives Comdata the flexibility and control to deliver superior functionality to merchants of all types. In addition, our BusinessLink customers will benefit from Comdata's expanded presence at the point of sale, which enables us to provide enhanced line-item purchase detail and gives them more of the consolidated data management they need."
Tranvia is based in Rock Island, Ill., and has offices in New York, Philadelphia and Hanover, N.H.
