FedEx, UPS Won't Handle Note 7 Returns Unless You...
(RTTNews) - FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service Inc., the two biggest delivery services in the U.S., have issued guidelines for returning Samsung's flagship smartphone Galaxy Note 7, which has been infamous for catching fire.
Both the delivery service companies will only accept the phones for returns if they have been packed using special boxes that are equipped to handle lithium-ion batteries, according to Bloomberg.
The phones will be only returned by ground-shipping, as federal regulators have placed restriction on air shipments for recalled lithium battery products.
"With Samsung discontinuing sales of its replacement Galaxy Note 7, FedEx has taken additional steps to ensure our priority on safety," Jim McCluskey, a FedEx spokesman, according to the Bloomberg report. "FedEx Express is no longer accepting any Galaxy Note 7 devices, including those from authorized distributors."
Samsung and Verizon are reportedly providing their customers in the U.S. with these fireproof prepaid delivery packages, which the U.S. Department of Transportation has approved.
Samsung had stopped the sales of Galaxy Note 7 due to a battery cell issue, and recalled the device for overheating problems that caused some of the phones to catch fire. Samsung asked consumers to turn off the Galaxy Note 7 devices and return them to the location of purchase for an exchange or refund.
The South Korean conglomerate expects the Note 7-fiasco to have a negative impact of about 3 trillion won on its operating profit from the fourth quarter of 2016 through the first quarter of 2017.
