Humana Military Healthcare Services Co-hosts Case Management Conference Focusing on Wounded Warrior Care

Humana Military Healthcare Services (HMHS), the Veterans Administration (VA) of Augusta, Georgia and Southeast Regional Medical Command hosted the second annual Southeast Regional Case Management Conference on October 23-24 in Augusta, Georgia. The focus was the coordination of care for wounded warriors and resources available to assist in the cultivation of case management for soldiers, veterans and their families. Attendees heard from experts on such topics as; post traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and the VA’s new "seamless transition” case management program. A tour of the nation’s only active duty rehabilitation unit was also offered to attendees. "This conference could not have come at a more appropriate time,” said Dave Baker, president and CEO of HMHS. "A time when America is focused on our dedicated men and women of uniform returning home with numerous challenges – we at HMHS stand ready to provide guidance to soldiers and families when they need it most.” Attendees at the conference included individuals involved in the coordination of military healthcare; approximately 200 nurses and social work case managers from 18 states and the District of Columbia attended. Guest speakers included; Dr. Scott Moran from Walter Reed Army Hospital, Cheryl Beversdorf from the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, and Terry Waskem from the VA , all of Washington, DC. The keynote speaker was Commander Richard Jadick, MC, a surgeon who was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic work during the Battle of Fallujah.
