Intuit's TurboTax Makes it Easy to Claim Tax Rebate
Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU), participating in a tax assistance event with
New York Congressman Charles Rangel, today announced the availability of
a free, simplified online tax form to help an estimated 23 million
Americans, including seniors, veterans and low-income earners, easily
file to receive their tax rebates.
The simplified, 1040A form is meant for those who had at least $3,000 in
earned income in 2007, but who would not otherwise be required to file a
return. The form can be prepared online through the TurboTax Free File
offering at www.taxfreedom.com,
beginning mid-March.
In addition, Intuit Chief Executive Officer Brad Smith unveiled a new,
free online tax rebate calculator available at www.taxfreedom.com.
Any taxpayer can now go online, answer a few simple questions and the
tool will automatically calculate the amount of their rebate.
Both free services were introduced today as part of an event in Harlem,
N.Y., supporting the Internal Revenue Service’s
Free File Alliance program. The program is a public-private partnership
that helps lower-income Americans prepare and file their taxes online
for free.
"I’m proud to
announce these new online resources with Congressman Rangel because he
is the true author of the Free File Alliance and a champion of this
economic stimulus package,” said Smith. "Helping
individuals with low or fixed incomes put an additional $300 or $600 or
more into their pockets is just one more way the Free File program
supports and assists American taxpayers.”
Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means committee, endorsed the
online program.
"It is vitally important that we do all that
we can to let people know what they need to do to qualify for these tax
rebates,” said Rangel. "Thanks
to Intuit, there is now another resource for people to use to quickly
receive the money they need and deserve.”
Dr. Lucy Cabrera, president of Food Bank For New York City/FoodChange,
the organization that hosted the event, added, "getting
these dollars to those who need it most requires teamwork and support. We’re
pleased to part of this partnership that helps empower and educate
people.” About Intuit Inc.
