RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 2005--NEC Solutions (America), Inc., a premier provider of integrated solutions for the Connected Enterprise in North America, today announced that Kurt Schwenk has been promoted to general manager of NEC Solutions America's Digital Cinema Division, which is dedicated to the creation and delivery of digital media solutions for advertising and feature films in theatres and public spaces.
"Over the past two years at NEC, Kurt has been instrumental in helping us deliver on our commitment to digital cinema solutions," said Larry Sheffield, executive vice president, Solutions Platform Group, NEC Solutions America. "He has successfully overseen the launch of both our STARUS Digital Cinema System and ADVA-Suite In-Theatre advertising system, ideally positioning us as a leader in the digital cinema revolution."
The Digital Cinema Division leverages NEC's world-class expertise in visual display products, infrastructure, and integration services to develop specialized, turnkey solutions for the delivery and management of digital content. Launched in November 2004, NEC's STARUS megaplex-wide digital cinema system deployment remains the first and only complete solution available from a single vendor in theatres.
Schwenk joined NEC in March 2003 as director of media solutions, responsible for leading the development of NEC Solutions America's integration services for digital cinema. Schwenk has focused on using digital media technology for the advertising and alternative programming displayed prior to feature presentations.
Schwenk's name is synonymous with innovations in digital cinema. With over 21 years in the entertainment industry, having worked for Warner Brothers, The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm Ltd., Dolby Laboratories, Qualcomm, and Macrovision, his connection to digital cinema began with the first digital cinema feature film presentation, Star Wars, Episode I, where his division oversaw the digital cinema transfer and playback for Lucasfilm.
