Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) have been among the leading providers of the specialized processors used for artificial intelligence. These graphics processing units (GPUs) were originally designed to speed up graphics in video games -- hence the name.
