PayPal Grows Its Volume Every Year. Here's Why the Stock Doesn't Always Follow.

At a high level, PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL) has the characteristics of a successful business. Its 228 million monthly active users consist of merchants and individuals, supporting a global network effect. Analysts expect it will generate $6 billion in free cash flow in 2026 on $34.7 billion in revenue. And the company is a leading force in digital payments, having been in business for more than two decades.Perhaps no metric demonstrates its success more than total payment volume (TPV), which rose 10% year over year in Q2 (ended June 30) to $486 billion.
