Soaring Netflix Orders "Full House" Spin-Off
(RTTNews) - High-flying Netflix may have yet another hit on its hands, as the company has ordered a spin-off of the hugely popular Full House series.
Fuller House will star Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber, who played sisters D.J. Tanner and Stephanie Tanner, and D.J.'s bestie Kimmy Gibbler, respectively, in the original series.
It is already confirmed that John Stamos will revive Uncle Jesse and his Beach Boys fetish for a few guest spots. Stamos made the announcement on Jimmy Kimmel's show last night.
Meanwhile, Netflix says discussions with Full House stars Bob Saget, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin regarding guest appearances in Fuller House are "ongoing."
"As big fans of the original Full House, we are thrilled to be able to introduce Fuller House's new narrative to existing fans worldwide, who grew up on the original, as well as a new generation of global viewers that have grown up with the Tanners in syndication," Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix, said in a statement.
Full House, which ran from 1987 to 1995 on ABC, has become an unlikely cross-generational, family-friendly success via syndication, sparking rumors that one of the big networks would get the whole gang back together.
Netflix shares have raced higher of late, helped by strong subscriber growth and buzz generated by original series like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.
The Los Gatos, California streaming company said it added 4.9 million streaming subscribers globally in the first quarter, above its forecast of 4.1 million, to end the quarter with 62.3 million subscribers.
