STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Sets Audience Record in Canada

− Sunday's premiere event delivered the most-watched series audience ever on Canadian specialty TV –

TORONTO, Sept. 29, 2017 /CNW/ - Sunday night's must-see TV event – the two-part debut of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY – has smashed the ratings record books in Canada on specialty television and SVOD:

  • So far, more than 1.17 million viewers have tuned into the premiere episode on Space, making it the most-watched specialty series on record.
  • That record was quickly broken by Episode 2, immediately following on Space, with the audience growing 5% to more than 1.2 million viewers to date. Episode 2 is now the most-watched series broadcast on Canadian specialty on record.
  • On CraveTV, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY's debut ranks as the biggest ever for the streaming service.
  • Including the simulcast on CTV, nearly 2.2 million viewers have watched the premiere episode to date, making it the third most-watched series debut on Canadian television this season.

Leading up to the premiere, Space's flagship entertainment series INNERSPACE pulled in 863,000 viewers with their STAR TREK: DISCOVERY countdown special. Hosted by certified "Trekkies" Ajay Fry, Morgan Hoffman, and Teddy Wilson, INNERSPACE continues their coverage of the series every Monday at 7 p.m. ET, following each new episode of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY.

New episodes of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY air Sundays at8 p.m. ET/PT on Space, and begin streamingMonday nights at 8 p.m. ET on CraveTV.

In Episode 3 of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY "Context is For Kings" (Sunday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Space), Burnham finds herself aboard the U.S.S. Discovery where she quickly realizes things are not as they seem, including the mysterious Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs).

STAR TREK, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns to television 50 years after it first premiered with STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. The series follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new lifeforms, and for one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series features a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Alex Kurtzman's Secret Hideout, Bryan Fuller's Living Dead Guy Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers. The series will air on CBS All Access in the U.S. and be distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries.
