    HIMSS 2005 Annual Conference

    DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 16, 2005--

SeeBeyond Included As Supporter and Sponsor of e-Prescribing NCPDP-HL7 Interoperability Standards Demonstration at 2005 HIMSS Conference

SeeBeyond (Nasdaq: SBYN), provider of the world's first fully Integrated Composite Application Network (ICAN) suite for advanced integration and composite application solutions, today announced that The Cleveland Clinic, a world leader in providing patients with excellence in all aspects of their healthcare, is leveraging SeeBeyond ICAN 5 as the integration engine to enable its Electronic Prescribing (e-Prescribing) program. A rapidly emerging application in modern health information systems throughout the world, e-Prescribing is playing a key role in reducing medication errors, improving patient care and reducing operational inefficiencies.
Helping to reduce medication errors, improve patient care and reduce operational inefficiencies, e-Prescribing is rapidly emerging as a key component of 21st Century Healthcare Information Systems throughout the world. In the United States, National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) SCRIPT is the primary messaging standard used for electronically communicating prescription-related information between prescribers and community pharmacies, while healthcare provider organizations utilize HL7 medication messages to process both inpatient and outpatient information. e-Prescribing depends on the bi-directional mapping and translations of new prescription messages, medication history and medication code sets using both industry messaging standards. To bridge this gap, the sponsoring organizations for both HL7 and NCPDP have embarked on a multi-phase standards coordination initiative to enable enterprise-based physicians and pharmacies to interoperate with community-based prescribers and pharmacies.
See the results of the first phase of this project at the HL7 HIMSS 2005 Exhibit: "Interoperability for the 21st Century Healthcare System". Sponsored in part by SeeBeyond, this exhibit will demonstrate how standards are helping to make interoperability a reality in the context of clinical information exchange including e-Prescribing, electronic health records, clinical trials, context management and more. As one of the participants in the e-Prescribing demonstration, The Cleveland Clinic will leverage the SeeBeyond integration platform to process e-Prescribing orders and reports, and demonstrate the flexibility to integrate with several ePrescribing Pharmacy Network Providers.
Processing more than three million prescriptions per year, The Cleveland Clinic is leading the charge in making e-Prescribing a reality. In the later half of 2004, The Cleveland Clinic transitioned from printing or calling in prescriptions to a patient's pharmacy, to electronically transmitting medication orders directly to the patient's pharmacy via pharmacy network providers. Using the HL7 to NCPDP standard mapping implementation, The Cleveland Clinic Health System's Clinical Integration Team is now distributing e-Prescribing orders to three pharmacy network providers, during the HIMSS & NCPDP conferences.
