Useforge Promoted at Proffitt's/McRae's

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 2005--Retailer Saks Incorporated (NYSE:SKS) (the "Company") today announced that Jeff Useforge has been promoted to Senior Vice President/General Merchandise Manager of Men's and Children's for the Proffitt's/McRae's group of stores. Useforge will report to Toni Browning, President and Chief Executive Officer of Proffitt's/McRae's.
    Jeff Useforge's retail career spans 17 years. Useforge rejoined Proffitt's/McRae's in July 2003 as Divisional Vice President/Divisional Merchandise Manager of Juniors. He was a buyer of various Men's and Children's areas with Proffitt's/McRae's between 1999 and 2002. Useforge also has held various merchandising positions of increasing responsibility with J.C. Penney and Mercantile Stores.

    Saks Incorporated currently operates Saks Department Store Group (SDSG) with 233 department stores under the names of Parisian, Proffitt's, McRae's, Younkers, Herberger's, Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner's, and Boston Store and 38 Club Libby Lu stores. There are 22 Proffitt's stores and 27 McRae's stores throughout the Southeast. The Company also operates Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises (SFAE), which consists of 57 Saks Fifth Avenue stores, 52 Saks Off 5th stores, and saks.com.
