Wyeth Selected for Ninth Consecutive Year as One of Working Mother Magazine's '100 Best Companies for Working Mothers'
MADISON, N.J., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wyeth announced today that it has been selected as one of Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers." This is the ninth consecutive year that Wyeth has received this honor. The selection was based on detailed responses to a 500+ question application, which solicited information about the number of work/life programs offered, the employee usage of such programs and the representation of women throughout the Company. Working Mother cited companies that "continually redefine workplace standards by establishing new paradigms for improved quality of life for their employees."
"Wyeth is committed to creating innovative programs that help our employees manage the demands of the workplace with their personal responsibilities," says Rene Lewin, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Wyeth. "Attaining this honor from Working Mother for the ninth consecutive year demonstrates our commitment to attracting and retaining top talent from a diverse workforce."
Wyeth provides an array of benefits to meet a variety of employee needs, including the special needs of working mothers. Wyeth offers a dependent care subsidy as a matching contribution to an employee's Dependent Care Spending Account. This benefit provides financial support to help meet the high costs of dependent care for Wyeth employees and their families. Only a few of the "100 Best Companies" provide a dependent care subsidy. In addition, Wyeth offers adoption assistance benefits, newborn care leave for new parents and a LifeManagement Program that is designed to support employees through a broad range of personal and dependent care issues, including elder care. Wyeth also provides on-site child care facilities in two of its locations, as well as national child care discounts, a tuition reimbursement program, training and development opportunities, and a lactation program for mothers returning to work. Many Wyeth employees have an opportunity to choose their work schedules to give them the flexibility to manage both work and personal responsibilities. Some employees may have the opportunity to work from home occasionally or on a regular schedule. Nearly half of Wyeth employees are women and increasing numbers of women are fulfilling leadership roles in the Company.
One employee, who has worked for the Company for three years, has used Wyeth's programs to facilitate care for her new baby, who required special medical attention. Instead of returning to work after she completed her paid pregnancy leave, she was able to take newborn care leave. This provided her with an extra week with pay without using vacation time and enabled her to take additional time to care for her infant without the added concern of her day-to-day work at the office. This employee plans to continue to work part-time until her infant undergoes surgery. She states, "These programs have given me the one thing I couldn't buy -- extra time with my baby. There is no doubt that Wyeth is sensitive to the needs of its employees -- especially Moms like me -- and goes the extra mile to get us what we need to balance our personal lives with our careers."
Wyeth is one of the world's largest research-driven pharmaceutical and health care products companies. It is a leader in the discovery, development, manufacturing, and marketing of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biotechnology products and non-prescription medicines that improve the quality of life for people worldwide. The Company's major divisions include Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Wyeth Consumer Healthcare and Fort Dodge Animal Health.
