Lisa M. Weber Named by FORTUNE Magazine to Its 50 Most Powerful Women in Business List for Third Year in a Row

Lisa M. Weber, president of Individual Business for MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET), has been named one of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Business” by FORTUNE magazine for the third consecutive year. Weber moved up two places to number 33. She first appeared on the prestigious list in 2004 at number 43. FORTUNE ranks the women on the list based on several criteria, including the size and importance of the company and the individual’s career path. Weber oversees the retail business segments, including Individual Business and Auto & Home, for MetLife, a leading provider of insurance and other financial services to more than 70 million customers worldwide. A 20-year veteran across the securities, banking and insurance industries, Weber is leading a retail growth strategy at MetLife that emphasizes client needs through face-to-face distribution, best in class customer service and product innovation, as well as driving overall profitability for the retail businesses. Following MetLife’s 2005 acquisition of Travelers Life & Annuity, Weber led significant enhancements to the product line up, integrated the sales force, redesigned the back office, and drove bottom line results. Her leadership led to the dramatic expansion of the company’s presence in the independent distribution marketplace, while strengthening the core MetLife and New England Financial agency distribution systems. From 2001 to 2004, Weber served as MetLife’s senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer. In this position, she was responsible for MetLife’s worldwide brand and communications, human resources, corporate ethics & compliance, audit, corporate services and security, as well as the company’s philanthropic efforts through MetLife Foundation. Weber was executive vice president of human resources from 1999 to 2001. Before joining MetLife in 1998, Weber spent more than 10 years at PaineWebber, where she held a number of senior human resources positions. Previously Weber directed various human resources practices and strategies at Merrill Lynch and Manufacturers Hanover.
