Uber Selects Expedia's Head Dara Khosrowshahi As New CEO: Reports

(RTTNews) - Uber's board has selected Dara Khosrowshahi, the head of travel booking website Expedia, to be its new chief executive, media reported, citing people familiar with the decision. Khosrowshahi is yet to confirm publicly whether he will accept the job.

Khosrowshahi, 48, has led Expedia for 12 years. The unanimous decision was made on Sunday by Uber's eight-person board, and the company could make a formal announcement as soon as Monday morning, the reports said.

On Sunday, an Uber spokesman reportedly said, "The board has voted and will announce the decision to the employees first."

The announcement comes as founder Travis Kalanick was ousted from the role of Chief Executive Officer in June following allegations of sexism and racism in the ride-hailing service.

As per reports, the Expedia CEO was one of three finalists for the top job. Meg Whitman of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Jeff Immelt of General Electric were also on the list.

Meanwhile, Immelt on Sunday Tweeted, "I have decided not to pursue a leadership position at Uber. I have immense respect for the company & founders."

Whitman, 61, had previously said she planned to stay at HP. She said, through Twitter, "We have a lot of work still to do at HPE and I am not going anywhere. Uber's CEO will not be Meg Whitman."
