Royal Canadian Mounted Police Selects Softchoice to Supply E-Seek Driver’s License Readers

Softchoice Corporation (TSX:SO), a leading North American provider of technology solutions, and subcontractor E-Seek Inc. (www.E-Seek.com), a developer of sophisticated detection devices for driver’s licenses and other state identification cards, today announced that it has been awarded a procurement Standing Offer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to supply the unique E-Seek Model 250 dual card reader. The RCMP provides federal policing services to all Canadians and policing services under contract to the three territories, eight provinces (except Ontario and Quebec), more than 190 municipalities, 184 Aboriginal communities and three international airports. E-Seek’s Model 250 gives the RCMP the ability to read both magnetic stripe and 2D barcode identification cards – both of which are used throughout the provinces in Canada.

The E-Seek Model 250 incorporates a magnetic stripe reader with 2D barcode reading technology. This creates a single device for reading virtually all government issued identification cards. The need to scan both magstripe and 2D information with one device has become more critical to meet the needs of law enforcement, retailers, banks and hospitality industries throughout North America.

Effective January 14, 2009, the National Individual Standing Offer (NISO) agreement with Softchoice calls for the supply and delivery of an estimated 4,600 E-Seek Model 250 including documentation and 1 year warranty/maintenance service. Delivery will be on an "as-and-when required basis” to locations throughout Canada, excluding Comprehensive Land Claims Areas. The term of the NISO will be valid for 12 months, with extensions for up to 2 increments of 12 months each.

"As government agencies transition from magnetic stripe to 2D barcode identification cards, the need to deliver an easy-to-use and reliable dual scan card reader has increasingly become more important,” said Stanley Altice of E-Seek Inc. "E-Seek is excited to work with Softchoice and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to supply a product that law enforcement agencies throughout the United States have successfully deployed.”

Currently, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police manually type in one’s identification card number to access pertinent identification information. With the E-Seek Model 250, Canada’s law enforcement personnel can simply swipe the magstripe or 2D barcode identification card in one device capable of reading both types currently used in Canada.
