The New York Times Company Names Todd C. McCarty Senior Vice President, Human Resources

The New York Times Company announced today that Todd C. McCarty has been named senior vice president, human resources, effective December 31. Mr. McCarty will be responsible for all human resources functions of the Company, including compensation and benefits, diversity programs, performance management, staff development and succession planning. He will report to Janet L. Robinson, president and CEO.

"We are delighted to welcome Todd to the Times Company,” said Ms. Robinson. "His extensive knowledge of all aspects of human resources, coupled with his deep experience in implementing growth, cost and culture strategies, will be extremely important to us in achieving our long-term objectives.”

Most recently Mr. McCarty, 43, served as senior vice president, global human resources for The Reader’s Digest Association, Inc., which he joined in 2008. From 2005 to 2008 Mr. McCarty was senior vice president, human resources with Rite Aid Corporation. From 2000 to 2005 he served as senior vice president, North American human resources for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. and from 1992 to 2000 he held various positions with The Frito-Lay Company, a division of PepsiCo, Inc. Mr. McCarty started his career with The Quaker Oats Company in 1989. He is also currently a director of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc.

Mr. McCarty received a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Minnesota in 1988.
