Alcoa Vice President Robert Alexander Retires; Walter Frankiewicz Joins Alcoa as President, AFL Automotive

Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that Walter E. (Walt) Frankiewicz has joined Alcoa as President of AFL Automotive. He succeeds Robert T. Alexander who has retired from the company. Frankiewicz comes to Alcoa from ArvinMeritor, Inc., a Tier 1 components supplier to the motor vehicle industry, where he was vice president and general manager of its Global Chassis Systems Division. The Alcoa AFL Automotive business designs and manufactures automotive electrical/electronic system and components for automakers worldwide. It has more than 34,000 employees in 13 countries. "Walt brings great commercial vehicle and automotive experience to this role as well as a strong strategic orientation. We are pleased he has joined the Alcoa team,” said Bill Christopher, Executive Vice President – Alcoa and Group President – Engineered Products and Solutions. "Bob has been a significant contributor to Alcoa in numerous engineering and leadership roles. Most importantly, under Bob’s leadership, AFL Automotive set the benchmark for safety and environmental performance for Alcoa. We wish Bob all the best in his retirement,” Christopher noted. Following is biographical information on Frankiewicz and Alexander. Walt Frankiewicz Walt Frankiewicz has 25 years experience in technical and senior managerial roles in the motor vehicle industry. He most recently was vice president and general manager at ArvinMeritor, Inc., a top global supplier of motor vehicle components and systems. From 2000 until 2004, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Benteler Automotive Corporation’s North American Operations based in Auburn Hills, Michigan responsible for Benteler’s automotive business in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Benteler, one of the largest independent automotive suppliers, is headquartered in Germany. Earlier, he spent 16 years with AlliedSignal Automotive in a series of engineering assignments culminating as Vice President of Engineering. Mr. Frankiewicz is a 1981 electrical engineering graduate of The Ohio State University. Robert (Bob) Alexander Bob Alexander was named president of AFL Automotive in 2001 and elected a vice president of Alcoa in 2003. During his career, he has held various engineering, program management and business management positions, primarily with AFL Automotive. He joined Alcoa in 1986 as chief engineer with AFL, progressing to general manager of AFL’s Japanese automotive programs, then director of EDS programs before being named vice president of AFL Full Service Supply in 1995. Two years later, he headed AFL’s Design Engineering and Program Management, than in 2000 he assumed accountability for AFL’s manufacturing operations in North America and a year later responsibility for AFL Automotive Operations worldwide.
