NORTHBROOK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 2005--Allstate Insurance Company was named for the third year in a row to the "Great Places to Work" list for African-American women published by ESSENCE magazine.
"We were looking to recognize companies that promoted diversity -- specifically the inclusion of African-Americans, women and African-American women," said Diane Weathers, editor-in-chief of ESSENCE magazine.
ESSENCE randomly surveyed African-American women who work at companies across the country, including employees at Allstate about the work environment to help determine its inclusion on this list. Yolanda Jones, a field claims adjuster for Allstate, was one of the women to complete the survey and is featured in the magazine.
"Allstate makes me feel that it values African-American women and what they bring to the table," said Jones. "Allstate leaders are also flexible and understand that being able to balance my work responsibilities with my personal life helps me to be more productive in the workplace."
"We value a diverse workforce at Allstate and understand how critical it is in order to continue to be successful," said Anise Wiley-Little, Director, Diversity & Work/Life. "Our customer base is diverse and our diverse employee workforce helps us to attract, retain and better serve these customers by providing services and products that are reflective of their diverse experiences and attitudes."
    African-American women make up 12.2% of Allstate's 38,000-employee workforce.
The complete list of the 35 companies being highlighted is available in the 35th Anniversary May issue of ESSENCE magazine, the preeminent lifestyle magazine that reaches more than seven million African-Americans each month.
