Procter & Gamble Helps Raise Awareness for World Water Day 2007

CINCINNATI, March 21, 2007 /PRNewswire/ -- The United Nations has dedicated 22 March of each year as World Water Day (WWD), a day to create public awareness and work on solutions to water issues such as the lack of safe drinking water for 1.3 billion people around the world.

Procter & Gamble is committed to making a difference on both fronts; raising awareness and creating solutions that save lives through its global cause -- P&G Live, Learn and Thrive(TM) -- and its signature program, Children's Safe Drinking Water.

"I cannot think of a better example of how P&G brands and people are fulfilling our company purpose of 'Touching lives, improving life, every day'," said P&G's Chairman, President and Chief Executive A.G. Lafley in his introduction to the company specially-created video dedicated to World Water Day.

On Thursday, March 22, World Water Day activities will be held at more than 75 P&G sites in 27 countries to raise awareness among employees and offer opportunities for their involvement. Worldwide P&G activities include demonstrations of P&G's PUR(TM) Purifier of Water technology, displays of informative posters -- even on public transport near Guangzhou's General Office -- and broad sharing of P&G's World Water Day video.

Unique activities are also planned in various P&G locations. In Latin America, PUR demonstrations will be part of employees' emergency preparedness training. In the U.S., the ongoing PUR Brand campaign, "Buy PUR, Help Save Lives," will be highlighted to enable more PUR donations to those who need it most. In Japan, Spain, and China, external water experts will speak about water issues around the world. In Belgium, the P&G cafeteria will serve African food and employee waiters will serve clean water to replace the dirty water on the tables. The tips ("pourboire") they collect will be used to donate more PUR sachets in Uganda. In Pakistan, Spain, and Greece, fundraising is also an element of the WWD event.

Beyond raising awareness, P&G is committed to contributing to solutions for water scarcity (this year's focus area of the UN World Water Day) through product and technology innovations that help save water. A number of new projects in this area will be demonstrated as part of P&G's World Water Day.

Drinking unsafe water kills more than 4,000 children and babies every day. With the help of partners, P&G's corporate cause -- Live, Learn and Thrive -- has improved life for more than 40 million children. The Live, Learn and Thrive signature program, Children's Safe Drinking Water, provides the PUR Purifier of Water technology to families who need it most through not-for- profit social marketing and distribution at cost to aid organizations at times of natural disasters. Consumers around the world can go to http://www.csdw.org/ to learn more about this program and to find out how they can become involved.
